School Calendar: The school calendar is published and distributed in September of each year. Crane provides each household with one Crane wall calendar. After the calendar is published, we cannot make changes; any changes after publication will be communicated in the school's weekly newsletter. When determining Crane vacation schedules, we must accommodate the Christian League Athletic Conference tournaments and other athletic schedules. We appreciate your patience in understanding the challenges of developing our yearly calendar.
Punctuality: The school urges all parents to help their children arrive early enough each morning to be in their classrooms by 7:55 a.m. Being punctual allows each child the opportunity to socialize with peers and to transition smoothly into the day's activities. Tardiness can be disruptive to both the child's performance and relationships with the class. Parking : These drop-off and pick-up procedures alleviate the backup of cars on San Leandro Lane.
- Students in Kindergarten through Third Grade will use the Lower School Loop in front of the Main Plaza. Cars for students who are not ready will be asked to wait near the end of the loop to allow other cars to advance. Cars need to approach Crane from the north using either Hixon Road or San Ysidro Road, then turn right into the loop, and turn left when exiting the loop.
- Students in Fourth through Eighth Grade will use the Upper School lot for drop-off and pick-up. Grades Four and Five will assemble on the west edge of the lot – the area near the Kitchen and Office. Grades Six through Eight will gather along the long walkway on the southern edge of the parking lot (adjacent to the science building). Upper School students will be picked up at the farthest end of the walkway (Eddie’s Point). Cars need to approach Crane from the south using Sheffield Drive, then turn left into the parking lot, and turn right when exiting the lot.
Both parking areas have driving spaces that have been designed to accommodate two car-widths. For safety, all students need to exit cars on the right side (the passenger side of the vehicle) due to the flow of traffic to the left of parked cars.
We ask parents to drive slowly, both on San Leandro Lane and especially in Crane’s parking lots. The speed limit on San Leandro Lane is 25 mph and the speed limit in our own lots is 10 mph. Please adhere to these limits – and drive slowly! We all have busy lives, but rushing along and driving too fast can have horrible consequences!
Both of these areas will be staffed from 7:45 until 7:55 in the morning, and from 3:05 until 3:15 in the afternoon. We ask that you do not drop off your students before 7:45 a.m.! All Lower School students not picked up by 3:15 will be sent to daycare.
If you have more than one student at Crane (or carpool with students from different grade levels), we suggest that you pick up all of the children in just one area. For group pickups, it is safest to use the designated location of the youngest child. So, if you have both an eighth grader and a third grader, use the Lower School Loop as your
Children who are late must check in with the School Secretary in the Office before going to class, otherwise, the student may be marked absent for the entire day. Parents of students with repetitive tardiness will be required to meet with the division head (Head of Lower or Upper School). Students with continued tardiness may receive Friday after-school detention.
Please be sure to notify the Office by phone before 8:30 a.m. if your child will be absent from school by calling the school at 969-7732 x101.
pickup spot. Of course, you can always park your car in the Upper School Lot and walk over to the school to collect your children.
The speed limit on San Leandro Lane is 35 miles per hour, but 25 mph when children are present, and 10 mph in our lots. It is crucial that all drivers proceed cautiously and exercise extreme care when driving in the neighborhood around Crane.
Lunch: Tuesday through Thursday, students bring lunch from home. In fair weather, children eat their lunches outdoors. A healthy snack for recess time may be sent with your child each day. This practice is encouraged for all students, Kindergarten through Eighth, as students often need some additional energy in the middle of the morning. Candy, gum and caffeinated soft drinks are not permitted. The school and its Green Committee encourage students to bring reusable or recyclable containers to minimize waste.
A forgotten lunch, if delivered to school, should have the student's name written on it, and should be brought to the Office by 11:30 a.m. (not taken to the student) and placed in the container marked "Late Lunches." Lunches will not be delivered to the students, but students are aware that they can check in the Office at lunch time (not during class time) to pick up their late lunch. In consideration of their classmates, students are strongly discouraged from having "fast food" meals delivered to them at school. Students will not be permitted to wait for lunch delivery in parking areas.
Hot Lunch: Mondays and Fridays are “Hot Lunch days". Lunch is provided to all students at a nominal cost, which is paid along with tuition. Meals are prepared with local, organic ingredients, and a protein-rich salad bar is always available. The menu is posted in the school's weekly newsletter, so that students may bring their own lunch if they prefer.
Staying After School: Upper School students should not stay at school after 3:15 p.m. unless they are participating in a planned school activity. Lower School students will be checked into daycare if not picked up by 3:15 p.m.
Daycare: Daycare is provided for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students by the After School Programs Director. Hours are from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Drop-ins are welcome, or times may be arranged with the School Secretary. All Lower School students not picked up by 3:15 p.m. are sent directly to daycare. Fees are $10.00 an hour, and billing is monthly. After 3:00 p.m. the Daycare staff can be reached on their cell phone at 680-6899.
Lost & Found: Lost & Found items are collected regularly and placed in the Lost and Found shed, which is located between the Office and the Computer Lab. Please check the Lost & Found shed on a regular basis. On the last Friday of each month, items remaining in the shed are donated to a local charity.
Phone Messages for Students: Important messages for students will be taken by the School Secretary. Messages will be delivered to students at lunch and after school, not during class time. Books, lunches, or homework should be marked and brought to the Office for pick-up by students outside of class time.
Faculty Mail: All items for teachers should be given to the School Secretary to deliver to the faculty mailboxes. The faculty mailroom is restricted to faculty and staff for reasons of confidentiality.
Dog-Free Campus: Allowing dogs on campus creates serious liability and health issues. Crane has declared the campus "dog-free." If you have your dog or other pet with you at Crane, please have them remain in the car.
